The Council of the State Duma (DG) will discuss today, February 14, the proposals of deputies on recognizing the independence of the “people’s republics” of Donbass (LDNR). This is reported by the correspondent of “Rosbalt”.

We are talking about the draft appeal of the State Duma to the President of the Russian Federation on the recognition of the Lugansk and Donetsk republics, which was previously submitted to parliament by deputies from the Communist Party. This document proposes to immediately recognize the independence of the republics of Donbass. Meanwhile, today the State Duma also submitted a draft resolution of the deputies from United Russia (ER), Viktor Vodolatsky and Artem Turov, with a proposal to send a draft appeal to the Communist Party of the Russian Federation for consultations with the Foreign Ministry.

It should be noted that both proposals were supported today by the profile committee of the State Duma for CIS affairs. At the same time, if they are submitted for consideration by the State Duma, the draft resolution developed by United Russia has the greatest chances for adoption.

As expected, the State Duma Council, which will begin its meeting at 16:00 Moscow time, will include both documents in the agenda of the plenary meeting on February 15.

As reported, on Saturday, the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, due to the pulling of the Russian military to the borders of Ukraine, held a telephone conversation, after which the White House issued a sharp statement. The American leader made it clear that the Russian Federation “will receive a decisive response and face serious costs” in the event of an escalation of the situation around Ukraine.

According to Biden, “a Russian invasion of Ukraine will lead to massive human suffering and weaken Russia’s position.”

French President Emmanuel Macron held lengthy talks with Putin last week in an attempt to prevent a Russian “attack” on Ukraine. Following this, he called the head of the Russian Federation and warned that “a sincere dialogue between Russia and France is incompatible with the escalation of the conflict around Ukraine.”
