The drama continues in Afghanistan after the Taliban invasion: some 200 families are still waiting for Spain to evacuate them

Six months after the terrible crisis in Afghanistan, nearly 200 Afghan families, collaborators of the Spanish cooperation agency, ask the government for help to speed up their evacuation. Many find themselves penniless and trapped in Kabul; others, refugees in neighboring countries fleeing from the Taliban. Diplomatic sources consulted by laSexta assure that Spain maintains intact its commitment to leave no one behind. A team from the chain has spoken with Sohailwho knows that he is privileged.

Together with his whole family, they have managed to set foot on Spanish soil. Here he is happy and feels safe: “I am a lucky man because I was able to get out of AfghanistanThere, Sohail collaborated with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) as a gender assistant. However, when the Taliban were about to take Kabul, she had to flee, but only: “I left Kabul for Uzbekistan and there I waited for my visa.

With the help of the Spanish Embassy, he tried to get his whole family out of this country, but it was impossible: “They spent four days at the airport, without water, without food.“. They almost lost their lives in an explosion. From then on, everything got complicated, as Sohail continued to tell us: “On the 25th, the evacuation ended and the Government of Spain left Afghanistan.” Thus, like his family that day, many others, AECID collaborators, remained trapped: “More than 200 families are still in Afghanistan waiting to be evacuated”.

The only option available, they are told, is to leave via Iran or Pakistan.. But they need an Afghan passport, which is currently complicated and expensive. In addition, they must have a visa for one of those countries, the price of which has also skyrocketed, and, finally, an appointment at one of those embassies, which are currently overwhelmed. “In the Islamabad embassy there is only one person in charge of visas.”

The wait turns into months. Sohail tells us that there is not a day that they do not call him for help. For this, he suffers: he begs for more resources for those embassies and economic aid for those families who They desperately await their departure to Spain.
