Former Haitian senator was arrested in Jamaica, he is investigated for the assassination of President Jovenel Moise

Earlier this month, a former Colombian soldier accused of being part of the group of 20 men who killed Moise was charged in the United States.

Former Haitian senator John Joel Joseph, wanted by Haitian authorities in the investigation of the assassination of President Jovenel Moise last July, has been arrested in Jamaica, a Jamaican police source reported on Saturday.

Joseph was arrested in the night from Friday to Saturday and is currently being held at a police station, the source said without commenting on the rest of the proceedings.

It only explained that Jamaican law enforcement was coordinating with its “international partners” and that there were “joint investigations.”

The Haitian president was assassinated in July but, despite the arrest of several suspects, there are still many uncertainties surrounding his assassination.

Already in that same month, the Haitian authorities had published a wanted poster for John Joel Joseph, described as a “dangerous and armed” individual.

Earlier this month, a former Colombian soldier accused of being part of the group of 20 men who killed Jovenel Moise and seriously injured his wife at his presidential residence in Port-au-Prince on July 7, 2021, was charged in the United States.

More than 40 people, including 15 Colombians and Haitian-Americans, have already been detained in connection with the investigation. (I)
