According to the Czech Minister for European Affairs, Mikulasz Bek, the dispute between Poland and Hungary with the European Union weakens the sense of Visegrad cooperation. In an interview with the daily “Hospodarzske Noviny”, the Czech minister spoke in favor of strengthening the cooperation between the Czech Republic and Germany, Austria and France.
Czech Minister: “Integration is our anchor”. He talks about the euro
Mikulasz Bek said in an interview about the challenges facing the Czech Republic in connection with the presidency of the Council of the European Union beginning in the middle of the year. Among the priorities of the Czech government related to the presidency, he mentioned issues related to the digital economy and the European Green Deal.
I will try to convince my colleagues that integration is our anchor
– he said.
He also did not rule out that the Czech Republic will soon have to deal with the issue of preparations for adopting the euro. In his opinion, this requires explaining to the Czech society what the essence of the European community is.
Czech Minister on Poland: We don’t play the same note
Mikulasz Bek also explained that the new ministers had not yet discussed support for possible sanctions against Poland and Hungary. He noted, however, that “in the senate, all parties of today’s ruling coalition argued that member states should respect a certain set of values, on which the use of EU privileges should depend”.
– I would not expect the same parties to forget about the case now – said Bek, adding that in the Civic Democratic Party, the largest coalition party, there are also voices of support for Poland and Hungary.
When asked about cooperation within the Visegrad Group, he indicated that its sense was weakened by the dispute over the rule of law between Poland and Hungary with EU institutions. – The Czech Republic and Slovakia do not play the same note – said the minister.
