The president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, assured this Wednesday that the country “is going through a coup attempt“, in view of a military movement led by the general commander of the Bolivian Army, Juan José Zuñiga, who knocked down the door of the Executive headquarters in the city of La Paz.
“I will not allow this insubordination,” Arce has stated through state television and has added that they are “stand firm here in Casa Grande to confront any coup attemptany attempt that threatens our democracy.”
The president of Bolivia, also from the seat of Government, has appointed new commanders of the Bolivian Army. Furthermore, Luis Arce and former President Evo Morales have separately called on their followers and citizens to “mobilize” to defend democracy from what both considered a military “coup d’état” by the commander general of the Bolivian Army.
This afternoon a tank commanded by Zuñiga knocked down the door of the Executive headquarters and said that would change “the government cabinet“and will release “political prisoners” such as former interim president Jeanine Áñez.
