The Pope: Subsidies can only be provisional, the goal is work

The pope assured that, although he has always been in favor of subsidies for workers, “these can only be a temporary help” because the objective is that there is work for everyone.

The pontiff made this consideration in a message for the 57th Colloquium of the Institute for Business Development of Argentina (IDEA) and the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy of Argentina.

Francisco began his speech wishing “from the heart” that this space for dialogue “be a moment of true exchange that can gather the innovative contribution of employers and workers who fight for their dignity and for their families.”

“Several times I have referred to the noble vocation of the entrepreneur who creatively seeks to produce wealth and diversify production, while making it possible to create jobs. Because I will not tire of referring to the dignity of work. What gives dignity is work. He who does not have a job, feels that something is missing, he lacks that dignity that work properly gives, that anoints with dignity, “he added.

The Argentine pontiff referred to the fact that sometimes they have put in his mouth ideas that he does not support about work. “As I propose a life without effort or I despise the culture of work,” he said in reference to supporting the need for subsidies.

“Imagine if that can be said of a descendant of Piedmontese, who did not come to our country with a desire to be supported but with an enormous desire to roll up their sleeves to build a future for their families. It is curious, the migrants did not put money in the bank, but bricks and land. The house, the first thing. They looked forward to the family. Family investment ”, he said, citing his grandparents who emigrated to Argentina.

He then clarified that “the subsidies they can only be a temporary help. You cannot live on subsidies, because the great objective is to provide diversified sources of work that allow everyone to build the future with effort and ingenuity ”.

And to achieve this, he added that “dialogue between employers and workers is not only essential but also fruitful and promising.”
