Venezuela detects its first seven cases of the omicron variant

President Nicolás Maduro reported this Wednesday that the first seven cases of the new omicron variant of the coronavirus were detected in Venezuela in the Caribbean country, all in citizens who were abroad and returned in recent days to their residences located in the Miranda states. , Lara and Caracas.

The national president explained that among the cases there are two of Venezuelans from Panama. The first of them, a 20-year-old young man who lives in Guatire, in the Miranda state, who arrived in the country on December 13, and a 32-year-old woman, from Barquisimeto, in Lara, who entered Venezuela this Tuesday December 21.

He added that another of the omicron cases was detected in a woman resident of Baruta, in Miranda, who arrived on a flight from Istanbul and was in Spain.

The fourth case of the variant was detected in a man who lives in the center of Caracas and who arrived in the country from Punta Cana; the fifth in a citizen resident of Chacao, in Miranda, who entered from Santo Domingo on December 17, and one more in a 54-year-old woman who arrived in Venezuela on December 12 and resides in Baruta, Miranda state.

Maduro did not offer the data of the seventh registered case, but reiterated the figure of seven cases detected in Venezuelan territory.

Booster vaccines from Russia, Cuba and China

“Now that the omicron arrives, we are going to face it, we are going to be prepared and I call people to get vaccinated,” said President Maduro, who assured that thanks to “the care” in the country, the covid-19 count of “10 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.”

In this sense, the president announced that Venezuela will begin the booster vaccination on January 3, 2022, with the drugs Sputnik Light from Russia, Abdala from Cuba and “the Chinese vaccine.”
