Clean, sustainable and renewable energy will focus regional event in the Dominican Republic

The clean energy, sustainable and renewable will be the central theme of the sixth ministerial meeting of the Energy and Climate Alliance of the Americas (ECPA), which will be held on March 14 and 15 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, reported this Tuesday the Ministry of Energy and Mines of that country.

The meeting, whose motto is “Renewable Energies of the Americas: integration and innovation”, Its main objective is to promote regional commitment to accelerate the transition towards clean energy, foster dialogue between the public and private sectors to identify opportunities, challenges in the energy transition and sustainable development.

Likewise, it seeks to promote private investment in the sector and strengthen regional cooperation mechanisms to support energy transition efforts, according to a ministerial statement.

Participants will address “new technologies in the field of energy transition, such as batteries or energy storage systems, to moderate the fluctuations of renewables, which will result in the modernization of the Dominican system”said a statement.

Among the participants in the meeting are the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro; the Prime Minister of Guyana, Mark Phillips, and the Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Álvarez.

Also attending will be Andrés Rebolledo, Executive Secretary of the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade); Rayén Quiroga, head of the Energy and Water Unit of the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC), and Lilia Burunciuc, director of Operations for the Caribbean of the World Bank (WB).

In addition, fifteen ministries of Energy from the region will be represented at the event.

The ECPA is an OAS initiative, launched at the 2009 Summit of the Americas, with the objective of promoting sustainable energy development in the region through cooperation, political dialogue, technical exchange and dissemination.
