Russia and China will deploy a nuclear energy facility on the Moon in 2033-2035

Russia and China They are studying the possibility of placing a nuclear energy facility on the surface of the Moon between the years 2033 and 2035, Yuri Borisov, general director of the Russian space agency, Roscomos, said on Tuesday.

“We are currently seriously studying together with our Chinese colleagues to bring and assemble an energy facility on the surface of the Moon,” said Borisov, quoted by Russian agencies, at the World Youth Forum taking place in Sirius, in the south of the country.

According to the head of Roscosmos, it is a mission that can be carried out automatically and all the technological solutions required for this are practically ready.

He explained that the assembly of the energy installation must be carried out with robots for safety reasons, so as not to expose people to the danger of radiation.

Borisov stressed that only nuclear energy can guarantee the operation of the equipment of the future lunar station, since the day on the Earth’s satellite lasts 27 Earth days, half of which there is no sunlight.

Hence, he added, solar panels cannot be used as a source of energy on the Moon.
