Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old non-binary boy, has died in Oklahoma (United States) after receiving a brutal beating by three high school classmates in the girls’ bathroom. It was Nex who gave the details to the police when he was admitted to the hospital, explaining that he ended up passing out after being hit in the bathroom.
The events took place on February 7. That day, Nex went to the hospital and returned home. The next day, he collapsed and was taken back to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. “They grabbed me by the legs, threw me to the ground and started hitting me.“, he told the agent.
Nobody at the institute called an ambulance. It was her mother who ended up calling the emergency room when she started to feel bad. She went to the hospital, but a day later, Nex died. Since 2022 he has been suffering from bullying because of his sexual identity and no one did anything to stop it, according to the family.
His death has sparked a wave of protests against anti-LGTBI bullying in high schools across the United States. Also the vice president, Kamala Harris, has regretted what happened. The police have opened an investigation waiting for the autopsy to clarify why Nex died.
