Xóchitl Gálvez: Mexico must take advantage of “its best opportunity” with nearshoring

The opposition presidential candidate Xochitl Galvez said this Monday that Mexico is in its best opportunity in many decades in the face of the recomposition of supply chains or ‘nearshoring’ to end poverty, but criticized that the Government’s mentality is not up to par.

Mexico “It is in its best opportunity that it has not had for many decades, this is our moment, but unfortunately it requires a mind that understands the world and the mind that is today in the National Palace does not understand the world.”said the candidate of the Strength and Heart Coalition for Mexico.

In a meeting with the American Society Mexico, Gálvez referred to the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, whom he accused of promoting a government “that has an airline, that has energy generation”that has “the oil company that loses the most money” and “have the Army in the streets.”

Among other things, the former senator said that the next president must offer social programs, but also education and employment, since she considered that this is the opportunity to “eliminate” poverty in Mexico.

He pointed out that education is key to taking advantage of ‘nearshoring’ because jobs will be related to robotics, artificial intelligence, the medical and aerospace industry, semiconductors and electromobility.

“I am convinced that the ‘nearshoring’ It would be the great enhancer so that our country could grow economically, because that is what we require: to grow economically and with that invest in inequality,” he expressed.

Therefore, he stated that this is an opportunity that Mexico must take advantage of because it will not occur again. “These opportunities are not repeated. “Companies are going to go to other countries where they have (clean) energy, where they have the rule of law and where they do not have the security problems that we have in our country,” he emphasized.

Decalogue to improve

Although Gálvez acknowledged that he cannot present proposals until March 1, when the official campaign begins, he presented a 10-point diagnosis to improve Mexico in the next government.

Among them, he highlighted that an effective rule of law in the “let the law be the law”, clean energies, improve the training and education of human capital and, to this end, guarantee internet throughout the country.

In addition, he said, infrastructure must be improved, specifically roads and the Mexico City International Airport, as well as solving the problem of public safety, since the current strategy has been “a failure”.

He argued that, without resolving security, Mexico “it’s not going to move forward”. He pointed out that, among other things, this issue must be worked on with the United States to address the fentanyl crisis.

Another point, he said, is that money must be spent intelligently, there must be responsible management of the economy, work to reduce inequality and “charge more to those who have more.”

In his decalogue he specified that a universal health system is necessary that covers all people without social security. Likewise, he said that Mexico must start making decisions “painful” such as formalizing the economy and inviting informal commerce to receive a benefit for paying taxes.

Likewise, he ruled out that he will relate to authoritarian or undemocratic governments. “I am not going to invite the Army of Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua to parade on September 16 (anniversary of Mexican Independence)”he settled.

Finally, Gálvez emphasized the need to strengthen the relationship with the United States because it is not only a trading partner of Mexico, but also “friend”. “I believe that if we work clearly, if we take advantage of nearshoring, the United States will beg us for labor.”a,” he said.

And he asserted that even migrants could contribute with their labor in value chains, after training and labor certification.
