Some 12,000 people have visited the training ship of the Peruvian Navy in the Spanish city of Malaga, the penultimate European stop on its round-the-world trip and where it docked last weekend.
This is the Union Training Ship, a ship that trains the cadets of the Peruvian Navy and that has set sail for the Spanish city of Cádiz, where it will be between January 31 and February 3, and then head to Morocco.
The ship, the second largest in the world, according to the Peruvian Navy, houses Casa Perú, an exhibition created to publicize the tourist attractions that the country offers and show a selection of typical products, such as alpaca wool, coffee, cocoa, fruits or unique crafts.
The ship arrived last Sunday at the port of Malaga, where the anthems of Spain and Peru were played as a symbol of the twinning between both countries and traditional Peruvian and native dances were celebrated.
The ship has also served to host business meetings with businessmen from the Spanish region of Andalusia.
The Union Training Ship, defined by the Peruvian ambassador to Spain, Walter Gutiérrez, as “Pride” of his Navy and “a traveling embassy”, It has received more than 40,000 visitors before arriving in Spain and hopes to exceed 60,000 before heading to America.
“Through this ship we take a little piece of Peru to all the ports”says in a statement the executive president of Promperú (Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism), Angélica Matsuda.
The Union ship, with 225 sailors on board, is carrying out a 312-day circumnavigation that pays tribute to the circumnavigation of the Frigate Amazonas in 1856. Throughout this trip it will visit 21 ports in 15 countries on five continents.
