“Sleep, baby, sleep”, “Right to left” – every Pole knows these songs. You don’t even have to listen to the duet and to sing along with them “One-two, bro, let’s drink to it.” Unfortunately, the Serb is not only a phenomenal musician, but also an unconcealed fan of Vladimir Putin.
In 2023, he was not allowed to perform in Moldova. The official reason given was “security reasons.” Unofficially, however, it was said that the pro-Putin views of Bregović, who openly supported the Russian annexation of Crimea after 2014, were to blame. Moldova, as one of the countries threatened by Russian influence, decided to counteract the spread of propaganda on its own and turned back the musicians together with Goran Bregović at the airport in Chisinau.
Kayah will perform in 2024 with Goran Bregović in Poland
Meanwhile, two years after Russia’s open invasion of Ukraine, after concerts supporting Ukrainians, aid actions and eliminating everything related to Russia in Poland, Goran Bregović will come to our country for a series of concerts with Kayah. The matter was first reported by bloggers creating the “Podcastex” podcast about the colorful 90s. Bartek Przybyszewski and Mateusz Witkowski do not hesitate to use strong words:
“However, we would like to express our surprise that so many large entities decide to cooperate with this type of person. And in this geographical location and at such a moment in history.”
– they wrote in a widely commented post on social media. The case is even more surprising because Kayah, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion, in 2022, took part in the “Together with Ukraine” concert, where she performed on stage next to Dana Vynnytska. A year later – similar concert, similar support.
Meanwhile, Goran Bregović’s views on Putin’s imperialist vision of Russia are known. The musician openly misses the former Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. Shortly after Russia’s annexation of Crimea, he performed in the occupied territories, which resulted in a ban on his entry to Ukraine. In 2015, his concerts in Poland at the Life Festival were also canceled – this was explained by the contradiction of his values with those of the Festival’s creators.
However, years passed, and recently Bregović did not say anything directly about his political sympathies. The Polish concert, which was canceled in 2015, faded from memory, and the duo performed in Poland several times in the following years. Also after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022. In 2023, in the middle of the war, Bregović performed alongside Kayah, for example at Męskie Granie.

Regardless of the musician’s views, Kayah and Goran Bregović will also perform in Poland in 2024. Three anniversary concerts are planned for September – in Warsaw, Gliwice and Tricity. The singer invites people to the event on social media, and there are more and more comments online from disappointed fans for whom the consistency of the musician’s views is also important:
It’s really sad, but I can’t understand this decision. Music is music, very great, but for me it’s a definite NO to this man.
Such a talented and talented lady. Is it really a good decision to perform with a musician who does not hide his pro-Russian views? The album was wonderful. But now? The massacre of Bucha, other atrocities and the man who supports it? It’s a waste of your career and talent.
It always hurts when an artist who made such a good album is such a person.
