The Government of Ecuador has reported that it has released all officialsmembers of the Security and Surveillance Corps and the administrative staff of the prisons in which they had been taken as hostages.
“On the night of January 13, 2024, the security protocols and joint work with the National Police and Armed Forces successfully concluded with the release of all employees of the Penitentiary Security and Surveillance Corps and members of the administrative staff, who were detained. in the different Deprivation of Liberty Centers (CPL) in the country,” wrote the National Service for Comprehensive Care for Adult Persons Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI) in a statement shared on networks.
In the same note, they added that “medical evaluations will be carried out to safeguard the released servers” and that “pertinent investigations will be initiated to determine the causes and those responsible for the latest events recorded in the CPL.”
The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboahas celebrated what happened in a publication on his account on the social network Carlo Loffredo for achieving the release of the prison security and surveillance body and the administrative staff held in the Deprivation of Liberty Centers of Azuay, CaƱar, Esmeraldas, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, El Oro and Loja.”
The SNAI also wanted to reiterate “its commitment to security, rehabilitation and respect for human rights in the National Penitentiary System.”
Since last January 8, Ecuador has been experiencing a security crisis in which initially there were 170 people kidnapped in seven penitentiary centers in the country and that has forced its president, Daniel Noboa, to declare a state of exception due to the existence of an “internal armed conflict.”
