The military institutions in Paraguay They remained on alert this Monday after an alleged cyber attack against the corporate division of a company telecommunications internet service provider, which apparently has affected more than 300 local businesses.

The General Directorate of Information and Communication Technologies (Digetic) of the Military Forces issued in a statement “an official alert to its institutions regarding possible effects that may be caused by an infection of ransomware (kidnapping program).”

According to Digetic, an attack of this type can “significantly impact by compromising backups, web pages, emails and their cloud storage.”

The bulletin, issued late on Sunday, noted that the communications disseminated by the Military Cyber ​​Event Response Division “serve a merely informative function” without being linked “to any particular case.”

In this regard, the deputy director of Digetic, Colonel Alfredo Ramírez, explained this Monday to ABC Cardinal radio that the bulletin alerted those responsible for its computer system “so that they take into account that cyberattacks through ransomware may be occurring in the country. and that the necessary preventive measures be taken.”

The note was published on the web after local media picked up a “red alert” bulletin from Digetic that alluded to a recent “cybersecurity incident that has significantly impacted one of the country’s main internet service providers and has had a direct impact on more than 300 companies associated with said operator.”

The communication – spread by local media on their social networks and websites – added that, “according to reports from specialists in the cybersecurity area, it is a ransomware infection linked to a group of cybercriminals called Black Hunt”. Furthermore, he described the severity of the incident as “critical.”

Local media have revealed that the attack, apparently, has affected clients in the corporate area of ​​the Tigo company since Thursday.

In a statement, Tigo Business indicated on Saturday that they have experienced “a security incident” in their infrastructure, without providing details about the date or type of impact.

According to the note, this “has affected the normal supply of some specific services of the corporate segment (companies).”

“No other mass or corporate services have been affected,” the company added, indicating that its team “is focused on restoring the affected corporate services.”

For its part, the Cyber ​​Incident Response Center of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (Mitic) reported on Saturday that it has “become aware of what happened,” in reference to “the cybersecurity incident that affects the company.” Tigorelated to its corporate services.”

In this context, he indicated that since January 4 they have been in contact and at the company’s disposal.

“So far, our assistance has not been requested,” concluded in a note.
