The Catalan filmmaker, producer and screenwriter Ventura Pons died this afternoon in Barcelona at the age of 78, as reported this Monday by the Catalan Film Academy. Ventura Pons directed around thirty films in his career, including his debut in 1978, ‘Ocaña, an intermittent portrait’, which was followed by ‘El vicario de Olot’, ‘Puta misèria’, ‘Actrices’, ‘Caricias’, ‘Amic/Amat’, ‘Forasteros’, ‘Year of Grace’, ‘Cola, colita, colassa’, ‘Miss Dalí’ or ‘Be Happy!’, his latest film, from 2018.
In a statement, the Catalan Film Academy, which awarded Ventura Pons the 2015 Gaudí Honor-Miquel Porter Award, referred to the deceased as “one of the most important filmmakers in our country and the one who has done the most for Catalan cinema and in Catalan”.
“A reference for many generations For his talent, his sensitivity and his ability to connect with the public, his prolific career has been recognized both inside and outside Catalonia,” adds the Academy.
