He United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) claims US$28.9 billion Microsoft for non-payments between 2004 and 2013, as well as interest and fines, according to a stock exchange document published Wednesday by the computer giant.
“We disagree with the proposed adjustments and will vigorously challenge the (lawsuit) through the IRS appeals office and, if necessary, in court,” indicated the company, which maintained that the process could take “several years”.
In a blog, Microsoft indicated that the problem with the IRS arises from transfers of profits abroad during the period considered.
“We firmly believe that we act in accordance with IRS rules and regulations,” points out the signature.
According to Daniel Goff, the company’s vice president in charge of international tax issues, the IRS did not take into account up to $10 billion in taxes already paid by Microsoft.
“We believe that we paid the taxes we owed in USA and in the world”he insisted.
According to the stock exchange filing, Microsoft considers its tax risk provisions as “enough” at the moment. Microsoft had revenues of US$212 billion in its last fiscal year, with US$72.4 billion in net profit.
