On January 1, 2024, the Act of July 7, 2023 on supporters will enter into force. It is intended to help disabled people who need support. Additional money will be donated to meet the living needs of these people. How to obtain the benefit and how much will it be?

New benefit for disabled people. Who can receive them?

will be available to people who are over 18 years of age and are disabled. Income will not be taken into account. It will not be subject to personal income tax, and health insurance contributions will also be paid for the person receiving the benefit. Please note that assistance will not be available to people staying in a shelter for minors, a prison, a care and treatment facility or a social welfare home.

How to apply for support benefits? The committee’s proposal and opinion are necessary

To obtain the benefit, you will need to submit an application to determine the need for support and an application for payment of the benefit. This will be possible from January 2024. Whether or not support will be provided will be decided by a team of specialists at a specially organized place or at the place of residence of the disabled person (provincial teams for assessing disability). The benefit will be paid by the Social Insurance Institution, and applications must be submitted electronically. How much money can you get? It turns out that the amount of the support benefit will be related to the social pension, which in 2023 amounts to PLN 1,588.44 gross. The support benefit ranges from 40% to 220% of the social pension. However, everything depends on the need for support. This means that some people have a chance to receive up to PLN 3,495 gross of support per month. However, it is worth taking into account that the amount of the social pension will be indexed next year. This means that the support benefit amounts will also change.
