The Internal Market Commissioner of the European Commission, Thierry Breton, has sent a letter to the executive president of the social network Elon Muskto regulate the “violent content“and the disinformation on the platform following the attacks launched since Saturday by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) against Israel, and the response of the Israeli Army with a “total siege” of Gaza.

“Following the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel, we have indications that its platform is being used to spread Illegal content and disinformation in the EU“says the letter, in which he gives a 24 ultimatumhours to take concrete measures.

In this sense, Breton alleges that numerous users have spread “manipulated images” and old photographs related to other conflicts, as well as video games, to “spread disinformation” about the war between Israel and Hamas.

“When you receive notices of illegal content from the EU, you must act quickly, diligently and objectively and delete the content in question when justified”, he highlighted, adding that, “given the urgency” of the issue, he hopes that he will be in contact with the “competent authorities” and with Europol.
