Euskaraz irakurri: Euskadi Literatura sariak, Arantxa Urretabizkaia, Patxi Zubizarreta and Joseba Larratxerentzat
The Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy, Bingen Zupiria, announced this morning the names of the first three winners of the Euskadi Literature Awards of this year. In an event held at the San Telmo Museum in San Sebastián, the counselor announced the names of the winners of the modalities of Literature in Basque, Children’s and Young People’s Literature in Basque and Illustration of Literary Works in 2023: Arantxa Urretabizkaia, Azken Etxea (Pamiela); Patxi Zubizarreta, Zerria (Erein), and Joseba Larratxe, Not even born Mikel Laboa (Elkar).
The jury for the Basque Literature award has highlighted “the peculiar formal characteristics and aesthetic choices that offers” the work of Arantxa Urretabizkaia, as well as “the risks assumed from the point of view and narrative approach.” Josu Jiménez, Idoia Carramiñana, Ane Zapatero, Ane Labaka and Mikel Aierbe have formed the jury for the Basque Literature Prize.
On the other hand, the jury composed of Leire Bilbao, Larraitz Idarreta, Karla Fernández de Ganboa, Xabier Etxaniz and Rubén Ruiz has decided that this year’s Euskadi Literature Prize in the category of Children’s and Young People’s Literature in Basque goes to Patxi Zubizarreta. In the opinion of the jury, the work Zerria by Zubizarreta is “a short novel aimed at young people, an elaborate literary work that moves away from simplicity and of the topics typical of youth literature.
About Not even born Mikel Laboaby Joseba Larratxe, the jury considers that it is a work very well worked and resolved and that this is reflected in the sequencing used. The jury, made up of Maite Mutuberria, María Carmen Fernández, José Carlos Torre, Miren Asiain and José Antonio Morlesin, added about Larratxe’s work that “it is a complex work with a fresh and evocative proposal, with many references and symbolisms cultural, but with a fluent reading.
The Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy, Bingen Zupiria, for his part, has indicated that the objective of these awards is “to draw the attention of readers and society to the works of these authors.” The counselor pointed out to the award-winners that “we also want to give a boost your work.
