Bloomberg about the elections in Poland. He warns against a war between PiS and the EU. “There is a risk”

The world’s largest media are very interested in the elections in Poland. An extensive text on them was prepared by, among others, Bloomberg, which analyzes the Polish political scene as well as possible post-election scenarios.

Bloomberg emphasizes that PiS uses all economic activities to maintain power. Journalists visited, among others: Biała Piska in north-eastern Poland and talked to the inhabitants. “The Polish economy has grown by more than 50 percent, wages have almost doubled and unemployment has halved over the last eight years under the leadership of Law and Justice. About 4,000 residents of the city, located in a region that was once among the poorest in the country, also benefited from subsidies government for families with children, the unemployed, the disabled and retirees,” writes, among others, Bloomberg. When asked what she would like to change after Sunday’s elections, one of the residents answers briefly: Nothing.

Another PiS term? Trouble for the EU

“Law and Justice, which styled itself as a defender of conservative Christian values, used LGBTQ rights, abortion and deliveries of Ukrainian grain as weapons in the political fight,” writes Bloomberg. Journalists also note that Jarosław Kaczyński and his party, using state media, present Donald Tusk as a “puppet of Germany.”

However, journalists emphasize that the next term of office of Jarosław Kaczyński’s party may mean “more problems for the European Union. “There is a risk that the government in Warsaw will intensify the ongoing conflict with the EU on issues including the rule of law, immigration and green energy goals,” we read in Bloomberg.

Bloomberg on election scenarios in Poland. Warns against repetition

What if he wins by KO? Donald Tusk’s victory would mean “a great, symbolic return of Poland to the European mainstream,” says Aleks Szczerbiak, a professor at the University of Sussex in England, quoted by the website. Bloomberg believes that the election result will be important until the last minute, because “polls show that PiS leads over the Civic Platform by 4-7 percentage points. And if neither party manages to gain a clear majority, they will have to look for coalition partners to form a government. According to Bloomberg, a repeat of the elections is possible

“The main advantage of the Civic Platform is that it wants to repair ties with the EU and reverse the government’s policy on issues such as abortion and LGBTQ rights, and at the same time it has pledged not to touch existing social programs,” we read in Bloomberg. – If Tusk’s Civic Platform wins, the formation of a new government will require the unification of politicians, from social conservatives to the radical left – notes finally prof. Szczerbiak.
