He Israeli government has confirmed that Palestinian militias have kidnapped at least one hundreds of people since the beginning of the unprecedented offensive that began this past Saturdayfrom the Gaza Stripaccording to a statement from the Hebrew Executive.
“The numbers continue to increase and our sadness with them. Our prayers are with all the families of those kidnapped, murdered or injured by Hamas,” the Israeli Government Press Office said in its statement, accompanied by the current toll of more than 600 dead and more than 2,000 injured since the beginning of Palestinian attacks.
The Hamas-led offensive that began with the firing of thousands of rockets into Israel was accompanied by a land raid of hundreds of militiamen who entered numerous kibbutzim and other Israeli communities where they proceeded to kidnap their occupants.
Throughout Saturday, Israeli forces were already speculating about the possibility that between fifty and 100 people would have fallen into the hands of the militias, without officializing a figure.
On the other hand, spokespersons for Palestinian militias have assured this morning that the real number of kidnapped people is much higher than what Israel was planning to announce and that they would give your own estimates throughout today.
In fact, and according to security sources to the Wall Street Journal, not even the militias themselves are sure of how many people they have in their power given that several Palestinian civilians participated in these kidnappings on their own without consulting with the leadership of either Hamas or the Islamic Jihad.
On the other hand, the prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed Brigadier General Gal Hirsch in charge of the issue of the kidnapped and missing and all Government ministries will be subject to his instructions in this regard, according to a statement collected by the Walla news portal.
