Venezuela: producers warn of the entry of food without health permits

The Confederation of Associations of Agricultural Producers of Venezuela (Fedeagro) warned this Saturday that perishable foods have entered the country without the regulatory health permits, which is why they ask the authorities to address this complaint.

”Finished and perishable foods are entering the country without the proper health permit,” Fedeagro president Celso Fantinel told private radio station Unión Radio.

Although he did not give more details in this regard, such as the quantities of food that are entering without health permits and by what means, he pointed out that these are products such as vegetables, roots and tuberssomething, in his opinion, “problematic”, due to the damage to the economy and health risks to consumers.

Fantinel also indicated that, in investigations carried out with other associations of producers and businessmen, they have discovered “that there are many fake products” circulating in the country, so he reiterated that this situation must be addressed by the authorities.

”Not only food, we have fake medicines, fake drinks, fake agrochemical inputs, fake fertilizers,” said the agricultural spokesperson.

On September 2, the military seized 1,200 kilos of contraband food from Colombiadays after agents of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) Two people were arrested on the border between the two countries for smuggling 4,500 kilos of food for animal consumption.

The Government has promised to fight “with an iron fist” the mafias that commit crimes on the borders, especially since, at the end of 2022, relations and commercial flow between Colombia and Venezuelaafter almost four years without diplomatic ties.
