Two young men living on the outskirts of Paris were arrested at the end of November and later charged as suspects of plan a jihadist attack in Paris in the middle of Christmas, as reported this Wednesday by the French media.
Both 23-year-old detainees have been charged with “criminal terrorist association of malefactors”, after being arrested in Meaux and Pecq by agents of the French secret services, who were investigating a possible attack, in the framework of a investigation opened by the Antiterrorist Prosecutor’s Office.
As confirmed by one of the detainees, they planned an attack in a crowded area from Paris or its surroundings using knives to attack passersby that they met.
Since 2012, jihadist attacks have left 269 victims in France fatal, about half of them in the attacks of November 13, 2015 in Paris.
However, in the latest attacks in the country the profile of the jihadists is different than in the first waves of attacks: such as those recently arrested, these are individuals with no connections to Islamist terrorist networks and radicalized on the Internet.
