Prison crisis: Guillermo Lasso replaces Fausto Cobo with Pablo Ramírez to lead the SNAI

President Guillermo Lasso makes this new change amid the renewal of the state of exception in prisons.

The Police General Pablo Ramírez Erazo was appointed new director of the National Comprehensive Attention Service for persons deprived of liberty and adolescent offenders (SNAI).

“Together we will work to put Ecuador’s prison system in order. Discipline, order and respect for human rights ”, said the President Guillermo Lasso after signing the executive decree of appointment.

Ramírez replaces the Army colonel in passive service Fausto Cobo, who had returned to that position after being appointed head of the Strategic Intelligence Center (CIES), September 27.

Guillermo Lasso delegates to SNAI the contracting of construction and remodeling works in prisons

Lasso makes this change days after the visit of a delegation from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to investigate the human rights situation in prisons and in the midst of the renewal of the state of exception for prisons for another thirty days, due to the wave of violence in this sector that, in November, left a balance of 62 inmates murdered in the Litoral Penitentiary.
