A federal judge set this Monday on March 4, 2024 to begin the trial for electoral subversion against the former president of USA donald trump, which will take place in full campaign towards the elections.
The process will start just one day before the “Super Tuesday”when more than a dozen states will vote in the Republican primaries, which Trump leads easily, to choose the party’s candidate for the November 2024 presidential elections.
“Setting a trial date does not depend on the professional obligations of the defendant, so Mr. Trump will have to arrange things for that date”said US District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan.
The date chosen may harm the Republican’s aspirations to return to the White House and on his social network Truth Social he described it as “deranged” prosecutor Jack Smith and denounced “election interference”
Trump faces charges of conspiring to nullify the 2020 election, in which he was defeated by Democrat Joe Biden.
Special prosecutor Jack Smith wanted to start the trial on January 2, 2024 while the former president’s defenders had proposed April 2026, some 17 months after the elections.
“Today a prejudiced judge who hates Trump gave me only a two month extension, just what our corrupt government wanted, (on) SUPER TUESDAY. I will appeal!” he said, although the dates of the trials are not usually appealable.
Prosecutor Molly Gaston said Trump is charged with “historic crimes” and considered that it is “extraordinary public interest” make a speedy judgement.
Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared in court in early August and did not have to attend Monday’s arraignment.
The 77-year-old mogul faces four criminal indictments this year, two by Smith and one by state attorneys in New York and Georgia.
But the case before Chutkan may pose the greatest legal danger for Trump, especially if it ends up being the first of what is shaping up to be a busy legal schedule.
“President Trump is not a normal person. He is incredibly smart and knows what it’s like to be between the ropes.”his lawyer Alina Habba told “Fox News Sunday” when asked how his client would prepare for his upcoming trials.
“He also knows the facts because he lived them”he added.

Trump will stand trial in New York at the end of March on charges of paying money to a porn star. In May he will face a Florida state court for allegedly taking secret government documents when he left the White House.
Trump and 18 other defendants also face racketeering charges in Georgia for their efforts to overturn the 2020 election result in that southern state, with an arraignment hearing due Wednesday. The Georgia judge has not yet set a trial start date.
The case before Chutkan charges Trump with conspiracy to deceive the United States and conspiracy to obstruct official proceeding, the January 6, 2021 session of Congress that was attacked by a mob of Trump supporters.
The only defendant in this process, the former president is also accused of trying to disenfranchise US citizens with false claims that he won the 2020 election.
Whit Ayres, a Republican political consultant, said that if Trump is acquitted at his first trial, it would all but clinch the party’s presidential nomination.
“I don’t know of any way to stop it”said. “But if he’s convicted of a felony, I don’t know how people would react, because we’ve never had anything remotely like it.”he added.
“I would have to think that a felony charge, perhaps coupled with some prison time, would make at least some people rethink their support.”he speculated.
Chutkan, 61, a nominee of former Democratic President Barack Obama, has handed down some of the harshest sentences against Capitol raiders and Trump accused her of being “very partisan” and “very biased”.
Chutkan also has a legal record with Trump: he ruled against him in a November 2021 case and in his judgment said that “Presidents are not kings.”
