The Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawieckihas confirmed this Sunday that next October 15, coinciding with the parliamentary electionsthe population will also be called to the polls to express their opinion on the migrant distribution mechanism which Warsaw considers “imposed” from Brussels.
Specifically, Morawiecki announced this Sunday the third of the questions that this consultation will include, which had already brought forward issues related to the privatization of public companies and the possible delay in the retirement age.
“Do you support the admission of thousands of illegal migrants of the Middle East and Africa under the mechanism of forced relocation imposed by the European bureaucracy?”, reads the third question, which leaves no doubt about what the position of the Executive is.
The prime minister alleges that “Poland’s security is crucial“, which is why his government is against the mechanism supported by the vast majority of EU member states. Only Poland and Hungary positioned themselves against this mechanism, which, according to Morawiecki, once again hides a threat of sanctions.
The prime minister hopes “that the voice of the Poles will be heard”, which is why he has asked for the citizen’s ‘no’, alluding to an alleged increase in insecurity in other European countries that he has linked to immigration, reports the news agency papa officer.
The migrant distribution mechanism, endorsed at the beginning of June by the Interior Ministers of the Twenty-seven, introduces a battery of obligations that open the door to exceptions, with the exception that countries that refuse to accept transfers must pay 20,000 euros for each person rejected.
