Kondratyuk wins $10,000 from Plushenko with 10 triple axels
Russian figure skater Mark Kondratyuk defeated two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko. Plushenko told about it in Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned).
During the show in Beijing, Plushenko offered the athlete an award for 10 triple axels in a row. Under the terms of the dispute, the jumps had to be performed cleanly, and the pause between them had to be no more than 15 seconds. 19-year-old Kondratyuk was able to perform axels and received a prize of 10 thousand dollars.
Earlier, Kondratyuk spoke about the support of his girlfriend, silver medalist of the 2022 Olympic Games Alexandra Trusova. The athlete said that the support of loved ones during performances is important to him, including coach Svetlana Sokolovskaya.
Kondratyuk is the champion of Russia and Europe. At the Beijing Olympics, the skater in the Russian national team won gold in the team tournament, but did not receive the award due to the doping scandal surrounding Kamila Valieva. In the men’s singles competition, the skater took 15th place.
