It is also possible to increase the allocated pool by 200 percent from national budgets. In the case of Poland, this means almost EUR 120 million for farmers. The decision on this financial package has been postponed several times. First, there were the Commission’s allegations regarding problems with the transit of products from Ukraine through Poland and Hungary. Now these problems have been solved.
“The EC spokeswoman officially confirmed my yesterday’s information – on Monday a meeting of representatives of 27 countries and approval of the 100 million package for farmers from 5 countries, for Poland is about EUR 40 million” – wrote Beata Płomecka, a correspondent of Polish Radio, in social media. “Today, the final (postponed several times!) decision of the EU on the granting of EUR 40 million to Polish farmers as compensation for excessive imports of grain from the UA. Everything is buttoned up” – reports the words of the Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski, Katarzyna Szymańska-Borginon – correspondent of RMF FM.
Poland among the countries that “accepted the greatest burden”
Later, 13 countries questioned the validity of the package only for the selected five. But this resistance was also overcome and doubts dispelled. Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski presented data confirming the difficult situation in the frontline countries.
“These five countries took on the greatest burden of increased imports of agricultural products from Ukraine,” emphasized the Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, in a Saturday conversation with the Brussels correspondent of Polish Radio, Beata Płomecka.
In addition, the Commission has prepared another package of EUR 330 million for the rest of the countries, including those in the south affected by drought.
