Emilia-Romagna remains this Saturday on red alert due to rain, while the rescue work continues without pause. The situation in the area is “dramatic” and the damage is “incalculable”, explains to laSexta Gianluca Biscotti, founder of ‘BFP Group’. The president of the region has estimated between 2,000 and 3,000 million euros that will be for reconstruction, which will last for years, but what worries the most is that the emergency does not end.

An emergency that has already damaged more than 5,000 farms. Pedro Zorrilla, spokesman for Greenpeace Climate Change, says that these adverse atmospheric phenomena have a very negative effect on farmland, both woody crops in which they are capable of destroying the fruits and leaves, and herbaceous crops.

Is an already complicated areasince it is a very delicate territory from the hydrological point of view and therefore it is not surprising that certain extreme weather events can end in this type of emergency.

The economic losses, direct and indirect, are incalculable. Experts estimate the value of one hectare of orchard at 50,000 euros. Only in Ravenna, one of the affected areas, 1,000 million have been lost so far.

The Infrastructures have also been affected.“in part, because they were not built contemplating these scenarios of a different climate with more intense catastrophes,” says Zorrilla.

The suspension of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, in Imola, also directly affects the economy of the area and is that its organization reported almost 300 million euros last year.

This Saturday, the rain continues to fall hard. The advance of climate change is making the intensity of these extreme events ever greater and more frequent, hence the urgency, experts insist, in urgently readjusting the infrastructure.
