New obligation for driving license holders over 65 – psychological tests

Psychological tests carried out on people over 65 on the occasion of extending their validity are intended to detect possible problems with concentration and assess the general mental condition of older drivers. In the case of a negative result, it will not be possible to extend the right to drive a vehicle. According to research conducted by German scientists, the risk of accidents among inexperienced drivers is comparable to the results of the 18-24 age group representing inexperienced drivers.

The European Commission and the driving license. The plans do not end with the new regulations

However, the activities of the European Commission do not stop there. According to , there is already an idea for a refresher course for drivers over 70. Still other plans assume issuing the document to older drivers for a shorter period – for example, 5 years. Extending its validity would be fraught with passing a number of tests and studies. Some experts are so strict that for people over 75 years of age, they propose ordering cyclical examinations carried out every year. Drivers between the ages of 65 and 75 would be forced to undergo examinations every two years.
