Joe Bidenbegins this Tuesday his four-day tour of North Ireland to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday agreement, which ended three decades of conflict. The White House has released the keys to the trip and has ensured that Biden, of Irish origin on his mother’s side, is looking forward to heading to the land of her ancestors.

“The president is looking forward to embarking on this journey and celebrating the deep historical ties that unite our two countries and that our two peoples continue to share,” John Kirby, one of the spokesmen at the White House.

According to Kirby, Biden will arrive on Tuesday in the evening to Belfast and will be met at the airport by the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak. Both will hold a bilateral meeting on Wednesday and then the American leader will give a speech at the new Ulster University campus in the Northern Irish capital. In his speech, the US president will highlight “the tremendous progress” that has been achieved after the signing of the agreement on Good Friday and, in addition, he will underline the willingness of the United States to “preserve those achievements” and support the economic development of Northern Ireland. North.

The agenda does not include a visit to the castle of stormonheadquarters of the Northern Irish Autonomous Assembly and whose power-sharing government has been suspended for more than a year due to the rejection of pro-British unionism to the Brexit arrangements for the region.

After spending a few hours in Northern Ireland, the US president will head to the Republic of Ireland that same Wednesday. Specifically, after the speech at Ulster University, he will go to County Louth (northeast Ireland) and where the president’s great-grandfather, James Finnegan, was born.

As explained by the White House, Biden will spend Wednesday night in Dublin and the Thursday will meet with the President of the Republic of Ireland, Michael Higginsat his official residence in Áras an Uachtaráin.

Biden will cap the Friday his tour with a visit to County Mayo (northwest), where part of his maternal family also comes from and where he plans to give a speech on ties between the United States and Ireland.
