Eintracht Frankfurt fans clash with police in Naples

Hours before the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League between Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt, fans of the German team clashed this Wednesday with the Italian police.

Hundreds of Eintracht ultras, hooded and dressed in black, threw objects at the police, who responded with tear gas, according to images released by the Italian press, in which it is also possible to see a burning car.

These violent acts, which took place in a square in the historic center of Naples, took place at a time when the Italian authorities, fearing disturbances, implemented a ban on the purchase of tickets by visiting fans for this game.

Despite this, at least 600 German fans traveled to Naples without tickets, according to press reports.

Eintracht and its fans have been under strict surveillance by UEFA since last season, after the pitch invasion and use of pyrotechnic material in the Waldstadion, after the team’s qualification to the final of the Europa Leagueafter eliminating West Ham in the semifinals.

In September last year, in the group stage of the current edition of the Champions League, there were disturbances between fans of Eintracht and Olympique de Marseille in France.

An Eintrach fan was seriously injured and several German fans gave Nazi salutes.
