Italy increases restrictions on means of transport to contain COVID-19

Only two passengers may travel in taxis and public vehicles with a driver, unless they are people from the same family.

The obligation to show the health certificate in the means of transport, including taxis, and the possibility of stopping the trains if people with COVID-19 symptoms travel are some of the measures that come into force today in Italy, when the circulation of the coronavirus.

The new protocol, adopted by the Ministries of Health and Infrastructure, also foresees that only two passengers travel in taxis and public vehicles with a driver, except in the case of people from the same family, a measure that was already used in some cities such as Rome.

In the main train station of the Italian capital, Termini, and in other major railway connections, such as central Milan and Florence Santa Maria Novella, the health certificate must be checked before the passenger gets on the train, although, if not it is possible, it can also be done when the staff check the ticket during the journey.

In Italy, since last October 15, to work, both in the public and private sectors, it is mandatory to show the document that certifies that you are vaccinated, that you have passed the disease or that you have a recent negative test .

The new regulation also stipulates that in the case of travelers with symptoms related to COVID, the health authorities and the railway police may decide, depending on the conditions, to stop the train in an emergency or to reserve a certain space, while the wagons affected will have to be disinfected.

The Undersecretary of Health, Andrea Costa, recognized today that the rules relating to trains are “measures that can be complicated”, but there is “consensus” that it is necessary “to be more and more cautious in a sector as delicate as transport “.

In maritime transport, contacts between shore and vessel personnel will be avoided as far as possible, while in cargo loading and unloading operations during transport, they will be done without direct contact between operators and drivers.

The circulation of the COVID-19 virus is increasing in Italy and, although it does so to a lesser extent than in other European countries, the growing trend of new cases is worrying, which this Thursday amounted to 5,144, almost double than two weeks ago. (I)
