The sports director of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Andrei Leksakov commented on the statement of the head coach of the national team Valery Karpin about the possible resignation from office. His words are quoted by “Sport-Express”.

After the defeat of the Russian national team in the match with Croatia, Karpin admitted that he admits leaving the post of head coach. He said that it will take him a week to make a final decision. The specialist did not rule out that he would leave the team before the play-offs.
On November 14, the Russian national team lost to Croatia in the final qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup. The team took second place in the group and could not go directly to the upcoming world championship. For reaching the final tournament, the Russians will fight in the play-offs in March 2022.
Karpin took over the Russian national team in July. The specialist agreement is calculated until the end of December.
