Former US Vice President Mike Pence was summoned by the special prosecutor investigating donald trump and his role in the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, US media reported on Thursday.

The Justice Department named Jack Smith as special prosecutor to oversee federal investigation about former President Trump’s actions in the riots, as well as his handling of classified documents found in his Florida mansion.
The subpoena comes “after months of negotiations between federal prosecutors and Pence’s legal team,” it reported. ABC News.
Pence’s testimony could help shed light Trump’s attempt to block congressional certification to Joe Biden’s electoral victory.
Trump publicly pressured Pence – who was chairing the session of Congress – not to certify the election results, but the then vice president refused.
Pence denounced Trump’s performance on January 6 as “reckless”However, he declined to answer questions from the parliamentary committee investigating the attack on the Capitol.
Trump, who announced his candidacy for the White House for the 2024 elections, could try to block Pence’s testimony invoking executive privilege, as he already tried to do with other former officials.
Pence is also believed to consider running for the Republican nomination in 2024. but has not yet made an official announcement.
