The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has stressed before the European Parliament that his country “will be a member of the European Union”, while he has defended the community “way of life” and has assured that in Europe his country sees “the way to home”.
“We are getting closer to the European Union, Ukraine will be a member of the European Union,” Zelensky predicted amid applause at the extraordinary plenary session of the European Parliament called for his visit.
In what is his first visit in person to this institution since the war began, Zelenski has held a community flag together with the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and has listened to the anthems of Ukraine and the European Union at her side. .
The Ukrainian president has stated that his country sees Europe in “total war” started by Russia, the Kremlin is trying to “annihilate the European way of life in Ukraine”.
“For Ukraine, Europe is the way home. I am here to defend the way home for all Ukrainians, of all ages, social status and religious convictions,” said Zelensky, who after visiting the European Parliament will next participate in the European Council.
