Britain opposes the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympics in Paris and has made this clear to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), a spokesman for the British prime minister said.

The statement was made after a visit to London by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who raised this issue at meetings in the British capital, RBC notes.

As stated in the office of the prime minister, Britain, “like many other countries, was unequivocal on this issue.” According to the British authorities, Russia should not be allowed to participate in international competitions, and while the conflict in Ukraine continues, it “should be treated as a pariah country.”

Earlier, Zelensky wrote on social networks about the inadmissibility of the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympics. “We call on partners to join our marathon of integrity, stand up to these efforts and defend the Olympic Charter,” he wrote.

Recall that the Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland Kamil Bortnichuk reported that about 40 countries are going to oppose the possible participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
