Germany highlights the importance of concluding the EU-Mercosur agreement in a meeting with Fernández

The head of the government German, Olaf Schölzmet on Saturday in Buenos Aires with the Argentine president Alberto Fernandezin which they affirmed the importance of concluding the agreement between the European Union and the mercosur.

“We agree on deepening bilateral trade relations and for this the agreement of the European Union (EU) with Mercosur is of special importance. Our goal is to reach a quick conclusion.” of the negotiations, Scholz told the press after meeting with the Argentine president.

Fernández, in turn, conveyed to Scholz his previous conversations with the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and the intention of the two South American countries that, “Once and for all, we can settle” the EU-Mercosur agreement.

Scholz began a tour in Argentina that will also take him to Chile and Brazil and will make him the first leader of the Western powers to meet with Lula since he took power on January 1.

Scholz’s tour aims to expand bilateral trade, investment flow and project financing in the three countries.

Germany, Argentina’s main trading partner in the European Union with an exchange of 3.6 billion dollars in 2022, has been interested in the development and export of renewable energy, reported the Argentine Foreign Ministry.

After the bilateral meeting, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on the transition to clean energy and a letter of intent to strengthen cooperation in the area of ​​startups and the knowledge economy.

On Sunday, after visiting the Monument to the Victims of State Terrorism of the last dictatorship (1976-1983), Scholz will leave for Chile, where he will meet with President Gabriel Boric.
