Russia warns Germany about possible authorization to transfer tanks to Ukraine

A new escalation in the tension between Russia and other European countries has occurred in the last hours due to the actions of each government regarding the conflict.

The trigger for everything was Poland’s request to Germany to be able to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and thus face the invasion of Russia. Military vehicles are German-made.

“Germany has already received our request for consent to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine,” Minister Mariusz Blaszczak declared on Twitter.

Fears of Germany to allow the shipment of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine

Poland had been willing to hand over the vehicles despite Germany’s reluctance amid fears of escalating violence with Russia. This is why the Poles began to opt for new actions such as forming a coalition with fifteen European armies to provide more heavy tanks.

Under German arms control legislation, Poland (and any other country that buys weapons from it) needs Berlin’s approval to deliver Leopard tanks to Ukraine, because they were made in Germany.

This law seeks to prevent weapons manufactured in Germany from ending up being used in conflict zones against the interests of Germany.

Apparently, Germany is willing to allow the tanks to be sent as it has encouraged its partners to train Ukrainian soldiers in handling the material.

Ukraine proposed a “non-aggression pact” to Belarus

“I have expressly encouraged partner countries that have deployment-ready Leopard tanks to train Ukrainian forces on those tanks,” said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who received the NATO chief in Berlin on Tuesday. Jens Stoltenberg.

Pistorius said on Tuesday that the decision could be imminent, saying it could happen “shortly.”

The Kremlin was quick to react, and warned that the delivery of the tanks to Ukraine will not bring “nothing good for the future of the relationship” between Russia and Germany.

The Leopard 2 combines firepower, mobility and protection. Designed by the German manufacturer Krauss-Maffei, it was mass-produced from the late 1970s to replace the American M48 Patton tanks and then the Leopard 1.

To date, some 3,500 copies have left the production chains.

This 60-ton main battle tank is equipped with a 120-mm caliber gun. It is capable of shooting on the move and its 1,500 horsepower engine allows it a maximum speed of 70 km/h, with a range of 450 kilometers.

According to its manufacturer, it is also equipped with “integral passive protection”, effective against mines and rocket launchers. It also has technological tools that allow it to locate and attack the enemy at a long distance. (YO)
