Macron and Scholz have shown unity and have insisted on supporting Ukraine at the Franco-German summit held this Sunday in Paris for promoting the connection between Berlin and Paris by a high-speed train line that offers more ecological transport between the two capitals.
The two countries “support a high-speed rail line linking Paris and Berlin, as well as the night train link planned for 2024“, they have highlighted in the joint declaration published after the summit.
This project “illustrates our desire to advance in the decarbonization of our economies and our societies, as well as our cross-border links“. “We also support the introduction of the first common binational ticket for young people, which is scheduled for the summer of 2023,” they have indicated. Currently the train journey between Paris and Berlin lasts at least eight hours, although Paris and Frankfurt already have a high speed train connection.
Scholz and Macron have reiterated their condemnation of the “Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine” and they have assured that they will continue to support Ukraine “unwaveringly” “in all possible fields, including the political, military, economic, financial, humanitarian, social and cultural fields.” “We will continue to support Ukraine and we will be by its side for as long as it takes,” they stressed.
Also in defense matters, the two presidents have reiterated their “full” commitment to the agreement signed between France, Germany and Spain on defense export controls, “a key element of our cooperation in the field of armaments.”
They have also valued the work of the projects for the design and manufacture of a new model of combat plane and of a new model of battle tank, the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) and the European Main Combat Tank (MGCS).
