López Obrador assures that Mexico has no problems in the face of a recession

the mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador assured this Tuesday that the economy of Mexico has no problem in the face of a global recession, as it will be “a great year” due to increases in tax collection.

“Experts sometimes fail. The truth is that the Mexican economy is fine (…) we have no problem and it is going to be a very good year, economically, socially”, defended in his press conference from the National Palace.

López Obrador thus commented on the estimate of the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, who warned that “one third of the world economy” will be in recession this 2023, including “half of the European Union”.

In contrast, the Mexican president maintained that tax collection is a variable “fundamental” that allows the Government to obtain resources to promote the economic and social development of the country if there is no corruption.

“The taxpayers are complying, thank you very much. And that they continue to help us, with the conviction that now this money (…) does not go to tax havens, it is not stolen”, commented.

In this sense, President López Obrador reported that the collection in the first 13 days of the year increased compared to the same period in 2022, going from 47,951 million pesos (about 2,524 million dollars) to 61,515 million pesos (3,238 million dollars). Dollars).

According to figures from the Tax Administration Service (SAT), this represented a nominal increase of 19%.

“So we started the year well in collection, in income, for example, the taxes are very good, we have less VAT because they are refunds that are made at the beginning of the year; However, income tax, look, from 14,000 to 29,000 million pesos (744 to 1,547 million dollars)”showed off.
