“The answer is in Barbadillo”, Peruvian authority blames Pedro Castillo for protests with deaths

A new tragic day was recorded this Monday in Peru after the demonstrations in Puno against President Dina Boluarte.

The Ombudsman’s Office announced that at least 17 people died in the vicinity of the Juliaca airport. According to El Comercio of Peru, several of the injuries had been caused by pellets.

Puno, the Peruvian Aymara region bordering Bolivia, has become the epicenter of the protests with an indefinite strike since January 4.

From there, a march is organized to the Peruvian capital that should arrive on January 12, according to various calls from social groups, which mainly bring together peasants.

In the city of Juliaca, in Puno, demonstrators once again tried to storm the airport of that city, being repressed by the police. On Saturday there was a similar attempt.

Similarly, the death of a premature baby was reported in Chucuito due to a roadblock that did not allow the vehicle in which it was moving to advance.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola, gave a press conference in which they detailed that they will continue with the efforts to give the citizenry peace of mind. He also described the event as a “hangover from the coup in the country.”

On December 7, former president Pedro Castillo tried to carry out a coup by seeking to unconstitutionally dissolve Congress, which cost him his job and he is currently in prison.

Otárola also pointed out that there is foreign financing and money from drug trafficking, although he did not present proof of this. He also accused Pedro Castillo of being behind the events.

“Here I am going to say it very clearly, of course there are those responsible. Who encouraged the people and the groups from January 7? Who announced a coup from this same Government Palace? Who is improperly coordinating these mobilizations to seek impunity and to achieve what they did not know or were not allowed to achieve in defense of democracy? The answer is in Barbadillo, they are responsible, ”he said.

The Minister of the Interior, Víctor Rojas, on the other hand, explained that some 16,000 residents had traveled to Puno to protest peacefully, as had 9,000 residents in Juliaca, but around noon the attitude changed and they began to harass the forces of order and three hours later the conflict escalated to an uncontrollable level, as revealed.

Rojas said that their purpose is to reach Lima. (YO)
