The mayor also explained that the crash occurred in the morning when two trains collided between the Potrero and La Raza stations, which belong to Metro Line 3, which runs from north to south of the gigantic city.

The local Prosecutor’s Office announced that it initiated an investigation file into the accident.

For his part, the Mexican president, the leftist Andrés Manuel López Obrador, expressed his condolences to the victims of the clash.

“I regret the accident in the Mexico City Metro. As I am informed, unfortunately one person lost his life and there are several injured, ”she said on his Twitter account.

The Mexico City Metro was inaugurated in 1969 and has an extension of 226 kilometers and 195 stations on 12 different lines. In 2021, the authorities calculated that it transported a total of 837 million passengers.

However, the Metro and the Sheinbaum government have been criticized for the lack of maintenance and investment and the accidents that have occurred.

The most serious of these occurred on May 4, 2021 when a Metro bridge collapsed along with a convoy, causing the death of 26 people and injuring hundreds.
