Micromachismo, gamer and dotcom, part of the new words included in the dictionary

The Royal Spanish Academy announced on Tuesday the incorporation of new terms to the Dictionary of the Spanish Language (DLE), this new update adds more than three thousand novelties.

The modifications not only include incorporating words but also amendments such as additions, included in its digital edition.

Among the new terms that are added are micromachismo, dotcom, portuñol, conspiranoia, gamer, ageism, panetone, among others.

At the initiative of the Spanish writer and academic Javier Marías, who died this year, “supervened” (imposted or artificial) is included in the dictionary; “hagioscope” (small opening made in the wall of a church to see the altar) or “translaticio” (belonging or relative to the translation).

“Mamitis” (excessive attachment to the mother), “potar” (vomit), “gusa” (hunger), “copiota” (copycat), “rular” (to function) and “forty-year-old” are some of the words that the colloquial language.

Words such as “dingo” (Australian canid mammal), “manta ray” (fish from temperate seas) and “warthog” (African artiodactyl mammal) are incorporated from the natural sciences, while from medicine they come to the dictionary “cortisol”, “hyperimmune ”, “lidocaine” or “single dose”.

From literature, the adjectives “garciamarquiano” or “cortazariano”, relative to the writers Gabriel García Márquez and Julio Cortázar.

In 2021, words such as cryptocurrency, webinar, cisgender or quinoa were incorporated. (YO)
