26-year sentence for man who killed his ex-partner in a restaurant

Wilson Marcelo P. Ch. was sentenced to twenty-six years in prison as the perpetrator of the femicide of Abigaíl Y., his ex-partner.

On March 21, 2022, when the femicide occurred, she was in a coastal food store located in Solanda, in the south of Quito, where she had started working.

The subject appeared at the scene and the woman called ECU911 from a cell phone that she had asked a friend to remove from the scene.

This was done by police action, but the individual stayed in the area. When she was left alone in the premises, he attacked her with a sharp object and the girl died.

According to relatives of the victim, she had been subjected to intrafamily violence during their coexistence.

After approximately ten years of ill-treatment and after a beating, days before the crime, Abigaíl Y. decided to denounce him, process an assistance ticket and separate. But Wilson Marcelo P. Ch. continued with the constant siege.

A friend of the victim returned to the scene of the crime and looked at the closed restaurant door, and also at the frightened subject, near the scene.

The attacker was arrested days later and denied having committed the crime. He claimed that she invited him to eat and for no reason pricked his leg with a small knife.

A doctor from a hospital in Pujilí, in Cotopaxi, treated those injuries that, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, could have been caused by the victim trying to defend himself.

A forensic expert in genetics and molecular biology explained to the judges that the defendant’s genetic profile was present in biological fluids detected in the victim’s clothing and also at the crime scene.

In addition to the sentence, the judges imposed a fine of 1,000 basic salaries ($425,000) and a comprehensive reparation of $20,000 for the three children who were orphaned. (YO)
