The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday reprimanded Amazon and two other companies for selling skin products that do not have the approval of the agency in charge of giving the green light to medicines.
The FDA sent a warning letter to three online sales companies pointing out that they sell products to remove moles and skin tags that have not been sanctioned by the regulatory body.
“The sale of these products is a risk to public health and may compromise the health of consumers when used without consulting a healthcare professional,” the FDA said in a statement.
Trading products interstate that do not have FDA approval is a violation of the US Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, the agency explained.
The letters warn Amazon and the companies Ariella Naturals and Justified Laboratories that if they do not correct violations of FDA orders within 15 days, the agency may take legal action against them.
The FDA alerted consumers in a statement that there is no product for sale that does not require a prescription to remove moles or skin tags.
