Sales of Peruvian oranges fell to the market of the United Kingdom. Shipments of this fruit between January and June of this year totaled only 278 tons for US$241,000, 82% less in volume and 75% less in value compared to 2021, thanks to the departure of the British buyer.
According to a report from the specialized portal Fresh Fruit, the value of the fruit fell slightly less thanks to the 38% increase in the average price, trading at US$0.87 per kilogram.
During this first semester, the main destinations for Peruvian oranges were the United States, with a 45% share; Colombia, with 15%; and Ecuador, with 10%.
To the United States, Peru sent 158 tons for US$107,000. Compared to the first half of 2021, these shipments decreased 25% in volume and 38% in value.
Despite this fall, this destination ranked as the main destination before the departure of the United Kingdom, which, having been the main importer in 2021, did not make any purchases during the first six months of 2022. On the other hand, the price quoted in this market it also fell (18%), reaching US$ 0.68 per kilogram.
Colombia, meanwhile, was incorporated as a new destination. To this country, Peru exported 34 tons for US$37,000. The price set in the Colombian market amounted to US$ 1.08 per kilogram, above the average price.
Finally, Ecuadorians had a contraction in terms of the volume and value acquired during these first six months of the year. Shipments totaled 25 tons for US$24,000, that is, 75% less in volume and 87% less in value, compared to 2021.
The price at which the Peruvian orange was quoted in this market was also affected, being US$0.95 per kilogram, that is, 47% less than in 2021.
