Google allows users to repair their smartphones

Google will start selling Pixel smartphone parts for home repairs

Google has allowed the repair of smartphones of the Pixel series at home, that is, without contacting a service center. This was reported in the company’s blog.

“We want you to have a great experience with your Pixel phone, as well as easy access to high-quality and safe device repairs,” the company said. As part of a self-repair program, Google has agreed with iFixit to sell smartphone replacement parts.

The IT giant has promised that displays, batteries, cameras and other parts will be available for order on the iFixit partner website at the end of 2022. Spare parts will be sold to consumers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and the European Union. Consumers will be able to purchase either individual parts or displays and batteries along with a tool kit. Users will also receive relevant instructions.

“We evaluate every new Pixel model in terms of ease of repair so we can reduce the effort, tools, parts and materials used in the repair process,” the company said. Google emphasized that users can always take a device in need of service to a service center.

In early April, Samsung announced the launch of the brand’s smartphone self-service program. In the fall of 2021, Apple announced the launch of the iPhone and Mac home repair program.
