Hardly anyone expected that the reaction to Russia’s military aggression towards Ukraine would be so broad and decisive. It is also about the reaction of private companies. Over the past two weeks, more giant brands have been suspending or terminating their activities in Russia.

PlayStation freezes operations in Russia. There will be no new consoles

The decision to suspend operations in Russia was made by Sony, the producer of PlayStation consoles. As we read in the announcement, Sony Interactive Entertainment – Sony’s daughter company responsible for the PlayStation brand – “joins the global community calling for peace in Ukraine.”

Sony declares that the supply of hardware and software to Russia has already been suspended, the premiere of Gran Turismo 7 in this country has been canceled and the operation of the PlayStation Store games store has been discontinued. Thus, the Russians will not only not buy new PlayStation consoles, but also digital versions of games for existing devices.

In addition, Sony has pledged to pay two million dollars. to UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) of the United Nations and the non-profit organization Save the Children. The funds are intended to help victims of the war.

Microsoft and Nintendo also say goodbye to Russia

Last week, Microsoft also decided to take a similar step. The company has suspended sales of Xbox consoles and the operation of services such as Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft will not sell the Windows operating system, the Office suite and other products in Russia. The company also helps Ukrainians repel cyber attacks.

Now Nintendo has decided about a similar ban. The manufacturer of the Nintendo Switch console has announced the suspension of sales of all products in Russia. Russian players have lost access to new consoles, because it is Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo that holds practically the entire market of this equipment in their hands.
